The CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support is designed for people who want to build stronger skills in person-centred support and take the next step in the disability sector. This qualification reflects the role of disability support workers who provide person-centred support, may contribute to individualised plans, work with greater independence, and may supervise or coordinate a small team.

At Australian Polytechnic Institute (AuPI), you can study this nationally recognised qualification through online learning with practical activities and mandatory work placement. This gives you flexibility while still giving you the opportunity to apply your learning in real workplace settings.

You will learn how to support people with disability in community settings, supported living environments, homes and disability services. You will develop the knowledge and practical ability to support people who may have complex needs, support community participation, follow behaviour support strategies, assist with skill development and contribute to safe, ethical and respectful support practices.

  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time of course commencement
  • Have successfully completed Year 10 or equivalent, or have other relevant qualification/s
  • Participate in a course entry interview to determine course suitability and support needs
  • Have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course (ACSF Level 3)
  • Have access to a computer or laptop and reliable internet for online learning

Assessment may include online knowledge questions, projects, case studies, practical demonstrations, role plays, workplace documents, workplace observations, simulated workplace tasks and evidence collected during work placement. You will receive clear instructions for your assessments, and your trainer will provide guidance and feedback as you progress.
