HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

There are no formal training package entry requirements for this unit. However, AuPI has set requirements to help make sure the course is suitable for you.

You must:

• Be at least 16 years of age at the time of course commencement
• Have successfully completed Year 10 or equivalent, or have other relevant qualification/s
• Have the physical ability to kneel on the floor and perform CPR
• Complete the pre-course workbook or e-learning module before attending the face-to-face workshop
• Have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course (ACSF Level 3)
• Be physically able to perform continuous CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor for a minimum of 2 minutes

Assessment is designed to help you demonstrate both your first aid knowledge and your practical response skills. Your assessment may include knowledge questions, practical demonstrations, CPR demonstration, AED use in a simulated scenario, simulated emergency situations, trainer observation and workplace-style practical tasks.

In this course, you will learn how to provide a first aid response in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.

You will learn how to:

• Recognise when CPR may be required
• Respond to an emergency situation
• Check the casualty and surrounding environment
• Perform CPR on an adult manikin
• Use an AED training device
• Follow emergency response procedures
• Communicate clearly during an emergency
• Apply CPR skills in workplace and community settings

You will also build confidence in staying calm, following a structured process and taking practical action when someone needs immediate help.

This course is delivered through a blended learning model. Before attending your face-to-face session, you will complete pre-course learning through a workbook or e-learning module. This helps you understand the key concepts before practising CPR in class.

Practical First Aid Training

CPR is a hands-on skill, so practical training is an important part of this course. At AuPI, you will practise first aid responses in a simulated environment that reflects real emergency situations.

You may use equipment such as adult resuscitation manikins, infant resuscitation manikins, AED training devices, gloves, face shields and wipes, CPR practice mats and scenario and demonstration resources.

The training environment is designed to help you practise safely and build confidence before being assessed.

It is also suitable for members of the public who want to feel more confident responding in an emergency.

• Participate in CPR demonstrations
• Kneel on the floor to complete CPR assessment
• Perform CPR on an adult manikin for at least 2 minutes
• Follow trainer instructions during simulated emergency activities
• Communicate clearly during practical tasks
