In an emergency, every second matters. The HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation course helps you build the practical skills and confidence to perform CPR in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.
Whether you need CPR for work, study, volunteering, industry requirements or personal confidence, this course is designed to help you respond calmly and practically when someone needs urgent assistance. At Australian Polytechnic Institute (AuPI), this nationally recognised unit is delivered through a blended learning approach, combining pre-course self-paced learning with face-to-face practical training and assessment.
You will complete your theory preparation before attending class, then practise CPR and emergency response skills with trainer guidance in a supportive environment.
Assessment is designed to help you demonstrate both your CPR knowledge and practical response skills. Your assessment may include knowledge questions, practical CPR demonstration, AED use in a simulated scenario, emergency response scenarios, trainer observation and workplace-style practical tasks.

You will also build confidence in staying calm, following a structured process and taking practical action when someone needs immediate help.
This course is delivered through a blended learning model. Before attending your face-to-face session, you will complete pre-course learning through a workbook or e-learning module. This helps you understand the key concepts before practising CPR in class.
Your face-to-face workshop includes: theory recap, trainer-led demonstration, guided CPR practice, AED practice, scenario-based activities, practical assessment and trainer feedback and support. This approach helps you arrive prepared, practise safely and receive direct guidance from your trainer.
CPR is a hands-on skill, so practical training is a key part of this course. At AuPI, you will practise CPR in a clean, safe and supportive simulated environment using industry-relevant training equipment.
You may use equipment such as adult resuscitation manikins, infant resuscitation manikins, AED training devices, training first aid kits, disposable face shields, gloves, wipes and other hygiene resources, CPR practice mats and scenario and demonstration resources. The practical session is designed to help you develop confidence and demonstrate the skills required for assessment.
This course may be a good fit for you if you need CPR training for your workplace, work in education/child care/aged care/security/health/community services, are studying a health/care/community services qualification, need to renew your CPR certification, volunteer in the community, or want to feel more confident responding in an emergency.
Important: Students must be physically able to kneel on the floor and perform continuous CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor for a minimum of 2 minutes.
